The Papyrus plant grows on the banks of the Nile. First, the stems are shortened to the future length of the sheet.
The outer skin is carefully cut off.
The inside of the stem is soaked for 14 days.
The stems are cut into the desired shape!
Flattening
Rolling
The rolled stems are arranged in a checkerboard pattern on a felt cloth...
and then pressed.
After drying, the finished sheet can be written or painted on!
A big thank you to Yasser Hussein, who patiently and vividly explained all the steps! And to the Sharm Papyrus Institute in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt, which made these recordings possible!
